Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director, the assistant conducts activities in order to maintain a safe and clean learning environment at the Whitehouse Nature Center and Grounds for Albion College and other patrons. Will assist in all areas of the center – youth programming, conservation projects such as trail maintenance, invasive species removal and landscaping. Responsible for the care of the display animals, maintain educational exhibits/displays and building maintenance/custodial duties. Help with all aspects of the Student Farm as needed. Assist in the daily operation of the Center.

Working Conditions
Be able to work indoors and in outdoor settings; exposure to different elements - wind, rain, heat, mosquitoes, etc. 

Start May 7, 2019 and work through August 24, 2019; position based on 20 hours per week; daily hours may vary however it is mainly a 10 am – 2 pm shift; must be available Tuesday through Saturday and some evenings.

Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of the sciences and gardening but not required
  • Basic knowledge of the flora and fauna of Michigan is desirable
  • Demonstrated genuine interest in children and enthusiasm for learning and teaching about nature in an outdoor setting
  • Ability and desire to work with people of all ages in a pleasant, enthusiastic and appropriate manner
  • Neat in appearance while on duty (representing the Nature Center and Albion College)
  • Good verbal communication and some public speaking skills
  • Ability to work alone as well as with coworkers
  • Valid driver’s license
Approx Hours:
20/week Tuesday-Saturday
Hourly Wage:
$10
