General Maintenance Assistant-Student

Position Title: General Maintenance Assistant-Student
Department: Facilities Operations
Supervisor: Adam Coco
Position Duration: Spring 2021, Can extend to Summer 2021
Date Created: September 24, 2020 
Needed: Monday-Friday 7am-5pm always flexible with your schedule. 20 hours max.

Facilities Operations is a service organization dedicated to the support of a community of learners through excellence in facilities construction and maintenance. We strive to provide a safe, clean, comfortable, and functional atmosphere that is conducive to living and learning together while maintaining the highest possible standard of financial and environmental stewardship.

General Duties (all levels)
  • Manual Labor - Inside and outside building cleaning and removal of furniture and debris. Cleaning building entries of leaves, cobwebs, window washing, painting, basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry and other tasks needed. Snow removal of walks and pathways.

Entry-Level Duties
  • Time management, safety, accountability and manual labor knowledge and skills that can be transferred to owning a home, working on computers, or working in the trades. 

Upper Level Student Maintenance:
  • Take the lead and show new student workers where supplies are and how to complete tasks.
  • Transfer of knowledge of skill sets from one student to another - peer to peer mentoring and coaching.
  • Project management and responsibility are learned when students are assigned a specific task and they need to identify the required materials, labor, schedule and communicate with those who could potentially be impacted by the work.
  • Learning a new craft or trade provides experiential learning opportunities as students learn how to complete certain tasks with various means of tools and methods.
