Mailroom Student Assistant

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Campus Post Office Student Assistant
Department: Albion College Post Office 
Supervisor: Michelle Garrett

The mission of the Campus Post Office is to provide a broad range of mail services to all members of the Albion College community, including intra-campus mail, incoming and outgoing U.S. mail, postage stamps, and shipping and receiving of expedited mail..
Duties
  • Assist with general post office duties including providing customer service to students, faculty, and staff
  • Assist Post Office Employees to serve campus customers
  • Promote Post Office services 
  • Develop and distribute marketing materials to inform and assist Post Office Customers

Promotional Opportunities:
As the Campus Post Office Student Assistant develops knowledge and skills in Mailroom, students will become eligible for promotion and additional responsibilities. Promotions would involve training new student employees, operating the cash register for cash and cashless sales & processing outgoing mail.

Learning Outcomes Assessment:

Training
  • Student Assistant will participate in an 1 week training process that will prepare them to independently work in the Albion College Post Office
  • Post Office Staff will work with work with Student Assistants on a weekly basis to learn the details and environment of the Post Office

Student employees must complete tax forms (W-4 Withholding Allowance Certificates) and proof of work eligibility (I-9) before beginning work as an Albion College Student Employee.
Completed forms must be delivered in person (bringing the required documentation) to the Human Resources Office which is located in 225 Ferguson. All forms should be completed in ink, not pencil and students should use their permanent address on all forms unless the permanent address is an international address.
